Gestalt Language Processing

For some children, language doesn’t start with single words—it starts with meaningful phrases.

Gestalt Language Processing (GLP) describes a natural way of learning language in which children understand and use language in larger chunks, such as phrases or sentences, before breaking them down into individual words. These phrases are often learned through familiar routines, favorite songs, or everyday interactions, and are usually repeated with the same tone or “sing-song” pattern in which the child first heard them.

Therapy sessions for GLP’s incorporate principles from Natural Language Acquisition (NLA), along with play-based interaction, emotional regulation support, and strong family collaboration.

Just like traditional language therapy, GLP therapy sessions are curated to your child’s unique interests and are centered on connection and shared joy. Sessions may include:

At Therapy Matters NY SLP, our goal is to support children in moving from scripted phrases toward independent, spontaneous, self-generated language.

Marina is such an amazing lactation consultant, she helped me figure out the root of what’s causing my challenge with nursing, and fixed it, so I was able to successfully continue nursing with both of my babies, thank G-D. She has such a gentle approach which calmed my baby and brought out my confidence, which was a game changer to help me continue nursing successfully. I am so grateful! Thank you Marina!❤️

Therapy Matters has been such a wonderful support for my son as he prepares for kindergarten. Their communication is outstanding, they are always responsive, and they take the time to answer every question. The environment is warm, welcoming, and perfect for young children. I want to especially acknowledge Christy, who has been amazing with her consistent communication and flexibility. She is kind, patient, and always willing to adjust sessions to meet my son’s needs. He genuinely looks forward to going, and he’s developed helpful strategies that improve how he interacts with others. Every therapist we have worked with has been fantastic, so caring, skilled, and dedicated. We are extremely grateful for the growth we have seen, and we strongly recommend Therapy Matters to any family looking for quality support.

I finally felt hope for the first time in years. My super picky-eater 5 yr old chewed on a carrot in the first session! Amanda is wonderful. My son connected with her right away and normally he's more shy when meeting someone new. Very friendly office & clearly are experts in this field.
